We need you now more than ever
With a surge of local COVID-19 cases in the community in the past few weeks, people living in substandard housing are even more at risk. Having a healthy and hygienic home is more important than ever before and we are continuing to distribute home cleaning products, masks and sanitiser to vulnerable families.
Habitat Hong Kong has always played a vital role in supporting vulnerable members of the local community. With over 200,000 people living in substandard housing with a poor ventilation system and have no access to clean water and sanitation, more needs to be done to protect them at this critical time. If you can, we are appealing to you to donate the HKD 10,000 government cash payout to Habitat Hong Kong, supporting families in need of a healthy and decent home to contain the transmission of COVID-19. If you can’t spare it all, please consider donating HKD 8,888, HKD 5,000 or even HKD 1,000. At a time where we are unable to run our usual face-to-face fundraising events, every dollar counts. We are grateful for your kindness.
Thank you and stay safe,
Jo Hayes
CEO, Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong
“I am able to help the poor families and to experience how hard they are suffering from their life living in poor conditions with no clean water, electricity, nor a decent shelter. Those are valuable experiences.
The motivation to keep me volunteering with Habitat is I believe in Habitat’s mission and vision. When I know there are people in need, I will volunteer to help them during vacations or my spare time.”

56-year-old Mr. Wong has lived alone in Shan King Estate for over twelve years. The paint starts peeling off the wall near his bed, and the crumbling plaster will fall onto his bed and floor. There are similar circumstances in his bathroom, with stains and patches on his ceiling, which severely impacts Mr. Wong’s quality of living.
“The wall here was very patchy before, with layers of uneven paint and plasters flaking off. However, it looks very nice now after the renovations. My wish for the new year is to have a clean, tidy and uncluttered space!”

“I first lost hope to get my house built due to the COVID-19 situation. I'm happy to get a call that construction of my house to start soon. The only working member of my family is also a construction worker; I told him to learn from the skilled workers' sanitation practices while building our home.”

Together, we build a better future
As a non-profit organisation providing much-needed services to those hardest hit by COVID-19, we want to highlight one new impact partnership with Barclays. We are extremely grateful that they chose Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong as one of their charity partners in Asia-Pacific as part of their global GBP100M COVID-19 Community Aid Package. Having a healthy home is critical, now more than ever. With this generous grant, we have launched a new deep-cleaning programme for low-income families living in substandard housing in Hong Kong. The programme aims to support 1,600 vulnerable families to have cleaner, more hygienic living conditions whilst also providing essential part-time employment to local domestic helpers who have been impacted by a significant loss in salary Thank you to Barclays and all our donors.

Join Annie, Doris and Holly in their yoga class to support our work
Hundreds of thousands of low-income families in Hong Kong have been hit hard by the pandemic. You can help these families to have a healthy place to live by spending 75-minute on your yoga mat with Annie, Doris and Holly. All proceeds from the class will be donated to our Emergency Resilience Fund to provide emergency support to vulnerable groups in our community to keep their shelter clean and safe.
For just HKD 7 a day, you can help people like Grandma Wong, to have a clean, safe and decent home. By becoming a regular donor, you help us to plan ahead and sustain our vital programmes.
Sign up to our volunteer list to receive the latest volunteer opportunities for our local programmes. We also have regular skills-based volunteer roles. Watch this space for other ways to get engaged with the Habitat team.
Support us by creating your marathon challenge. Run, swim, cycle and walk with Habitat from now till 31 August, to reach a goal set by you, and to be achieved at your own pace.
